Common Window Repair Problems We Fix

In New Orleans homes, we see the same repair issues repeatedly. Here’s what we handle:

Foggy or Cloudy Glass

Fogging between the panes of a double-pane window means the sealed gas unit has failed. Moisture has entered the space between the panes and condensed on the interior glass surfaces, which you can’t wipe away because it’s inside the unit. In many cases we can replace just the insulated glass unit without replacing the entire window, which costs significantly less than full replacement, but only if the frame is still in good condition. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in.

Broken Window Seals and Drafts

A broken seal lets outdoor air infiltrate around or through your window, driving up your energy bills and reducing comfort. Depending on where the seal failed and the condition of the frame, this may be a weatherstripping repair, a re-glazing job, or a signal that the window needs replacement. We assess each case individually.

Stuck or Difficult-to-Open Windows

Windows that are painted shut, have swollen frames, or have hardware that no longer operates correctly are both a comfort problem and a fire safety issue. We free stuck windows, replace failed balance systems in double hung windows, repair or replace cranks and operators on casement and awning windows, and fix sliding windows that have jumped their tracks.

Broken or Cracked Glass

Storm damage, impact from objects, or thermal stress can crack window glass. We replace individual panes and full insulated glass units. For impact-rated or laminated glass, we ensure the replacement meets the same rating as the original.

Failed Hardware

Locks, latches, handles, hinges, and balance systems all wear out over time. Replacing hardware is usually quick and inexpensive, but it makes a real difference in security and usability. We carry parts for most major window manufacturers.

Frame Damage

Wood frames that are soft, rotted, or warped are more serious. Minor damage can sometimes be stabilized with wood hardener and epoxy filler, but frames that have lost structural integrity need to be replaced. We’ll give you an honest assessment and a quote for both options when that applies.

When We Recommend Repair vs. Replacement

We recommend repair when the frame is structurally solid, the window operates correctly (or can be made to), and the repair will last at least five more years. We recommend replacement when the frame is failing, the window is single-pane, or multiple issues have accumulated to the point where repair costs approach replacement costs.

We will never push you toward replacement if a repair is the right answer. That’s not how we operate.
