How Casement Windows Work

A crank at the bottom of the frame operates the sash. Turn it, and the window swings outward. The hardware is simple and durable, and because the sash locks against the frame on all four sides when closed, casement windows create one of the tightest seals available in residential windows.

Pair them with wide frames and low sills for a picture-window effect that still opens.
